Trace Back Our Roots
(© 1996, Tammy Ann Winn ~ ASCAP)
We see dysfunction in our family
And we think to ourselves how can this be
That we are just a product of one woman, one man
We see corruption in society
The way things are and the way things used to be
And we have to stop and wonder are we better or worse
Well we’ve got to trace back our roots…
(And we’ll see we’re all connected)
Trace back our roots…
(Oh how the vines intertwine)
Trace back our roots, don’t you know,
We are each an equal link in the mystery of this world and the divine
We see compulsion with materials
So distribution isn’t there for all
And we ask every now and then are we doing things right
We see confusion in our relationships
The way they sail a while then start to sink
And we take the time to question could it be our fault
Well we’ve got to trace back our roots…
(And we’ll see we’re all connected)
Trace back our roots…
(Oh how the vines intertwine)
Trace back our roots, don’t you know,
We are each an equal link in the mystery of this world and the divine
Well we’ve got to trace back our roots…
(And we’ll see we’re all connected)
Trace back our roots…
(Oh how the vines intertwine)
Trace back our roots, don’t you know,
We are each an equal link in the mystery of this world and the divine
The divine
The divine
